Happy Women's day........
It's 8th march and The world celebrates the women’s day today, and it means different things to different people. The politicians consider it as an opportunity to trade their cleverly crafted agendas mixed with the theme of empowering women in various social arenas. The marketing world tries to push through some products by churning out some advertisements.
The corporate world catches up with the fever by organizing some special events for their women employees.
The entertainment world in order to make sure that it is not left far behind tries to portray women in bold roles in their offerings. Nothing much needs to be explained on the contribution of the media on women’s day as they come out with lot of talk shows, documentaries, some even sparking off controversies, interviews with women achievers etc…
Messages with the theme of empowering women receive lot of likes and shares on the various social media avenues. Husbands offering gifts to wives, children gifting cards to their mothers, brothers congratulating their sisters and male colleagues wishing their female counterparts; the world cherishes the women’s day in various ways.

Does all these celebrations stop with only one day? Has all the women’s days that have gone by brought about any real changes in the lives of women? Are women getting the needed safety? Are women really empowered in the society?
Well, we wish there are positive answers to these questions, but the reality doesn’t seem so.Parents bring up their daughters with the only aim of getting them married to an honorable household, and consider that their duty is over. This, again they do with a selfish attitude as they want to gain the society’s respect.
Some women have become too bold with their dressing and attitude, but there are millions of innocent women who are still caged inside the society’s well framed barriers to be mocked and considered as objects to satisfy the lust and as child producing factories. These women have desires to fly, but their wings are clipped, they want to play a significant role in the upliftment of the society, but they are looked down by their own household. They want to be loved, but the society use them to satisfy their own needs.
Women working as bonded labours, domestic maids, sweepers and scavengers, widows, destitutes, those left behind by their husbands for no wrong of theirs; All of these souls long for a day where they would be free from their society inflicted woes. The politicians, law makers and media take a lot of mileage out of the abuses meted out to women. This is not going to help the cause in any way. The days will continue to pass, and a few women would sit at elite places and would even dictate terms. But, for the unfortunate lot, the grind goes on and on.

They say matches are made in heaven. And they really are. We've heard so much about love and we all crave it. But when we finally find it, we don't know what to do with it. Yet there are some people who get together for a purpose and their stories become an inspiration. We bring you a love story that will touch your hearts and make you weep. This is a love story between two Indian Air Force officers..Love was meant to happen. It all began in January 2002.
Deepika Dadlani had just joined
for her second term of training in the Air Force Academy, and Ronald Kevin Serrao was in the final term - a senior most trainee cadet in the Academy - an office bearer. The first thing he had noticed about her was her name on the arrival list of cadets at the railway station - he would later admit. Over a game of charades, their love story began and then, it was magic! The long talks about work, life, dreams, and family at the ‘cycle stand’ on the way to the mess soon brought them closer to each other. Deepika skipped dinner on many an evening as that was the only time she would getto talk to him.Distance makes the heart grown fonder. As all good things come to an end, the training days were soon over and they were never posted at the same base since. Yet, on weekends or on any other opportunity they got both made it a point to visit each other. ‘Distance makes the hearts grow fonder’ they say and so, their relationship blossomed despite the distance. Ron and Deepika got engaged in December 2004 and in April 2006 they tied the knot. They were not posted at the same base or region even after their wedding which made them steal weekends to see each other. She visited him in Tezpur, Halwara and Ambala and he visited her in Bangalore and Agra, and sure enough those visits were some of the best moments of their lives....Once in a while, your life becomes a fairytale
“My life was like a fairy tale when Ron was around” recalls Deepika. He was her friend, philosopher and guide in the true sense. As a fellow pilot, he taught her more than some of her instructors. He had guided her from time to time through some of the challenging situations at work and in personal life. A perfect host while on leave, a true gentleman to the ladies, a perfect buddy to hang out with and total brat to his Air Force officer friends. That was Flt Lt Ronald Kevin Serrao! “When I got my captain ranking, he was the first person I called……and because he understood all the intricate details of the process, it made the celebrations much sweeter” Deepika proudly grows nostalgic.Things don't always go as per the plan Deepika had flown Ron and his squadron to Nal on the 10th of Jan, 2007. They had an early birthday celebration for him as she knew they both had to work and would not be able to be with each other on his 26th birthday on January 17th. On the 17th, they talked to each other at length totally oblivious that it was going to be their last conversation. He had told her that it was his best birthday ever. 18th was Deepika’s day off. She was in her room and was trying Ron’s number for a long time but was not able to get through. She was obviously worried and at one point grabbed the rosary from under her pillow and began to pray. At one point the rosary broke and even though she is not very superstitious, this made her very anxious. She knew something was not right. So, she came out of her room and began pacing nervously in the hallway. “Just then, I saw my Commanding Officer and the Flight Commander walking towards me with their spouses. I was not sure why they wanted to talk to me.” They made her sit and broke the news of the air crash. The Jaguar combat jet he was flying had blown up mid-air over Jaisalmer district in Rajasthan a few hours ago.The tragedy“My world came crashing down and my head began to spin when I heard the news” says Deepika “and my life has not been the same since” she adds.A special IAF plane brought the mortal remains from Ambala to Mangalore for final rites on the 20th of January. The world witnessed an extremely composed brave woman in uniform marching ahead of the funeral cortege, paying her final respects to her beloved husband. Deepika reveals the painful reality: “Frankly, I was in a state of trance that dayand for quite some time thereafter. I had many sleepless nights and was put on medication.” It took her a very long time to accept the fact that she was now categorized as a war widow. She was given a new ID card and that has become her new identity.Life moves on
It has been very difficult and every day has been an ordeal for her but she knew she had to go on. “I had to live for our families, for Ron’s dreams and for our dreams. So, I got back to work but could never set my foot in the cockpit.” Shetried for a whole year after the tragedy but could not fly. “It felt as though a part of me had died with Ron. My passion for flying and the joy of it all was dead. What else can I say? My wingman is gone” laments Deepika. Many advised Deepika to start over and move on but she knew it was easier said than done. It would certainly be difficult for anyone to understand the depth of their relationship. Eventually she requested a premature release from the Air Force, got back to studies and completed her MBA. She has now taken up a civilian job in the corporate sector. How the tragedy changed Deepika's life foreverDeepika says that the tragedy has made her more patient, more responsible but less alive. It has been a long struggle to cope with the pain and learn to look ahead. After almost a ton of paperwork, she moved back to New Delhi where she now lives with a dog and a full time maid. The balancing act of work and home now keeps her busy and she finds less time to brood over the bygones. Slowly things are falling into place and Deepika says that things are a lot better.Being the only child of working parents, both scientists on govt. posts had made her independent and daring. “Early in life I learnt to respect knowledge and humility. My maternal aunt who is a spastic has been my role model. I have realized seeing my aunt that hard work and dedication makes nothing impossible” recounts Deepika. Growing up she had only two dreams - one, to be a pilot and second, to join the military. Men and women in uniform fascinated her and the Air Force was the perfect combination to realize both her dreams at once.Love is like the wind, you can't see it. But you can feel it- Nicholas SparksThe training years were tough especially for a woman. The rigorous physical and mental training seemed impossible at times but the thrill of flying made all the challenges worth her while. “Ron was very proud of my accomplishmentsandthe fact that I was a pilot in the Air Force made him beam with pride” reminisces Deepika. She learnt the art of forgiveness and being charitable from her husband who taught her that there is more to life than holding grudges.“Even today, I encourage all the parents to send at least one of their children to serve in the armed forces. In spite of the tragedy and the agony I went though, if I have a child in this life or the next, I will definitely want him or her to join the military and wear the uniform that made all of us proud” declares Deepika.January 18th marks the 6th anniversary of Flt Lt Ronald Kevin Serrao’s final take off to his heavenly abode. Please join me in saluting this hero, his brave bride Flt Lt Deepika Dadlani Serrao, his parents Col John Serrao and Dr Jessica Serrao....

Kaafir ke dil se aya hoon mein yeh dekh kar,

14 year old Gujarat student sign Rs 5 crore MoU with Govt for building drones

Ahmedabad/Mumbai, January 14:
A 14-year-old boy wearing spectacles created a buzz at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit on Thursday after he signed a Rs 5 crore-worth Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government on drone designed by him.
The boy identified as Harshwardhan Zala, a class 10 student, signed the big deal with the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat, to felicitate production of the drones designed by the young boy. The drone has impressed everyone at the summit which helps detect and defuse land mines on war fields.
According to Times of India, Zala has been working on his business plan and made three prototypes of the drones while his classmates are preparing for the upcoming board exams. Zala said that he started working on the drone project in 2016 and created a business plan too. The inspiration behind the project first struck Zala when he came to know that a large number of soldiers succumb to injuries sustained due to landmine blasts or while defusing them manually. The 14-year-old school going boy spent around Rs 5 lakh on the three prototypes of the drone. His parents shelled out approximately Rs 2 lakh for the first two prototypes, whereas he was granted Rs 3 lakh from the state government for the third prototype.
“The drone is equipped with infrared, RGB sensor and thermal meter along with a 21-megapixel camera with a mechanical shutter that can take high-resolution pictures as well,” Zala reportedly explained during the summit. The drone detects land mines and covers eight square meter area while flying at the height of two feet. It also gives a signal to the base station.
Zala also revealed that the drone is capable of carrying a bomb weighing 50 gram that can be used to destroy the landmine. But the bomb part is not yet tested.
The teenager has already registered a patent and has set up his own company ‘Aerobatics’. Zala a student of Sarvoday Vidyamandir in Bapunagar, Gujarat said that he has been interested in science and innovation for several years and was always encouraged by his parents.
Father of the teenager, Pradhyumansinh Zala is an accountant by profession while his mother Nishaba Zala is a housewife. Zala’s dream is to get his product registered at Google Inc. headquarters in the United States where he has already shared his project.

Its never too late to start

At age 5 his Father died.At age 16 he quit school. At age 17 he had already lost four jobs.At age 18 he got married.
Between ages 18 and 22, he was a railroad conductor and failed. He joined the army and washed out there.
He applied for law school he was rejected. He became an insurance sales man and failed again.
At age 19 he became a father. At age 20 his wife left him and took their baby daughter.
He became a cook and dishwasher in a small cafe.He failed in an attempt to kidnap his own daughter, and eventually he convinced his wife to return home.
At age 65 he retired. On the 1st day of retirement he received a cheque from the Government for $105.He felt that the Government was saying that he couldn’t provide for himself.
He decided to commit suicide, it wasn’t worth living anymore; he had failed so much.He sat under a tree writing his will, but instead, he wrote what he would have accomplished with his life. He realised there was much more that he hadn’t done.
There was one thing he could do better than anyone he knew. And that was how to cook.So he borrowed $87 against his cheque and bought and fried up some chicken using his recipe, and went door to door to sell them to his neighbours in Kentucky.
Remember at age 65 he was ready to commit suicide. But at age 88 Colonel Sanders, founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) Empire was a billionaire.

Moral of the story: Attitude. It's never too late to start all over.
MOST IMPORTANLY, IT'S ALL ABOUT YOUR ATTITUDE. NEVER GIVE UP NO MATTER HOW HARD IT GETS.
You have what it takes to be successful. Go for it and make a difference. No guts no glory. It's never too old to dream.
